WOW! What Grandma saved and she did. This is an authentic dress worn by my husband's mother. I believe that it is handmade because of the detailed fine stitching. The skirt has tiny accordian Pleats which create a sassy swirl in anyone's walk. The Sheer Jacket is also trimmed with these pleats. The Dress is fully lined. This is indeed a one of a kind treasure. My father, a US Marine fought in the Phillipines in WWII. On his way stateside he was in China and brought home this beautiful green Velvet coat in hopes that he and his young bride (my mom) would soon have a baby that would wear it. Well, the 1st child was a boy (my brother) and I don't know that they remembered to even try it on me when I did show up but Mom saved it and gave it to me with the story. "The Midshipman" is a 100% Wool outfit and authentic! You'll search long and hard for a complete outfit in as excellent condition as this is. This is my husband's original suit (see photograph). I believe it's 1945 but it could have been 1944. Suit includes blouse (that's what they called the shirt), blouse insert and pants. In addition we have the hat to go with this outfit!
