Extremely rare French bar saucer with 30 centime price for use under an absinthe glass. There is a green edge with a silver hairline inside. This is a genuine turn-of-the-century saucer or soucoupe from the Belle Epoque when poets and artists drank the addictive wormwood-based drink absinthe which was banned in France in 1915. Here are two colorful and decorative Art Deco absinthe-type saucers from a French bar, priced in francs, probably dating from the late 1920's or 1930's when this style was in fashion. These are similar to those used during the absinthe era except that these are from the first decades after absinthe was banned in 1915. Chambolle-Musigny wine case stencil, 2 7/8 inches by 9 5/8 inches.
This stencil, used for marking cases of French wine, is a genuine 19th century metal stencil from a collection purchased in France. It has a wonderful oxidized patina which is so dense that it is hard to tell what metal was used, but a few scratches seem to show copper or brass underneath.
