This is a beautiful hand carved stone sculpture. It looks like black onyx or marble, It is a modern stylized figure of two lovers embracing in a very romantic pose. It has a heart shaped base that is also of black stone. The surface is highly polished with just a few very shallow surface scratches that look like they could easily be buffed out. A rare find, this beautifully expressive religious statue is a carved wood, polychrome and gesso Baroque cherub figurine circa mid-1700's. It was bought from the estate of a family that lived for centuries in Brazil and owned a slave plantation there.
