This wonderful 10 1/4" by 8 3/8" and almost 7/8" deep this handpainted art work shows four birds in a wood unfinished frame and is in excellent condition. This is a very pretty, simple Japanese bowl. It has a unique mark on the back and what appears to be an artists signature. The bowl is square and the sides slope gently upwards. The corners are a bit higher than the sides. In one corner there is a pretty pink flower. In the opposite corner there are three little petals (only one shows in the photo). Absolutely wonderful example of Otagiri, the pattern is "Mandarin". I believe this is an early Otagiri piece. This dish is done in a beautiful yellow background, with green leaves, peaches and two blue birds. It is 6" square with recessed corners and is 1-1/4" tall on the sides. Lovely very old Japanese artist signed Small Bowl with lovely orange and gold border inside and very faint blue figure in center; most of the raised enamel design is around the outside of the bowl, with blue XO border around the foot of the bowl. It may be that this was a lid to another bowl. What appears to be chips on the base rim is actually original and under the glaze. 4-1/8" diameter at rim, 1-1/4" tall. Antique, Fabulous, and very large handcarved Bamboo Vases, brush pots, or general containers. An old handwritten note on a card found inside the vases, reads: "Talula's brother, W. O. Pinson, had these canes carved in Japan 1904." We assume that the metal bands have been added at some more recent time in an effort to stop the splitting of the canes -- the taller of the pieces shows a split in the back (pictured), and other minor splits are throughout.
