Vintage metal shelves measuring 21 3/4 x 16 x 3 3/4 inches. All tiers (including the top) have a metal lip/flange. There are 4 holes for hanging. There are no dents or rust. There are several layers of paint, some of which were not applied in a careful manner and resulted in a less than smooth finish in some areas. There is some chipping of the paint. The best book on American Federal Furniture, based on the Winterthur collection, where Charles F. Montgomery was director. He later became a senior research fellow at Winterthur and later became a curator and professor of art history at Yale University. This is the 1978 Bonanza edition, not the 2001 reprint which is of lesser quality. It is a large volume, copiously illustrated. The book is so large, in fact, that the scan truncates the cover a bit. Fine mahogany metamorphic library chair, probably by Morgan and Saunders of London, who designed and made the best versions of this type of useful furniture, which can serve as reading chair and library steps. Rhode Island or the southeastern part of Massachusetts as evidenced by the chestnut secondary wood. Diminutive English Hepplewhite mahogany bowfront sideboard of the ideal size with contrasting cross-banded inlay, stringing, excellent color and a spectacular shell on the recessed center drawer. It has two center drawers, two small drawers on the left and one large bottle drawer on the right. The proportions of this piece make it even better — the market awards a premium for 4-foot sideboards. The drawer linings are oak, another quality feature.
