From the FLIRTATION series marketed in 1953, is this stunning floral brooch by Trifari. Signed Crown Trifari Pat Pend, this indicates the piece was produced some time between April 28, 1953 (the date of the patent application) and August 18, 1953 (when Patent 170208 was issued to Trifari). Not often found with green rhinestones, it's even more rare to find it in this great a condition. The rhodium plating on the back of the flowers has only minor pitting but no loss. I bought this brooch years ago because I just liked the way it looked. Uninformed, as I am, regarding jewelry, I thought it was plastic. I was going through a "catch-all" drawer the other day and found it wrapped in a paper towel. If I had not noticed that the clasp was marked silver, I would still think it was plastic. Advertised in the Spring of 1964, Trifari suggested this gorgeous carnation be worn at the curve of your collar. Personally, we'd wear it anywhere! The condition is like new with only the slightest loss of enamel on three tips (out of 80!). The pin is fully functional and there is no goldtone wear whatsoever. This old and original art deco era novelty pin features a real photo of an obviously fun-loving woman who's wearing her best smile and a feathery boa. Her portrait is set behind thick rose-tinted curved glass in a brass bezel frame. The brass back is marked...PHOTO COLOR STONE - PAT. PEND. The pin measures 1 7/8 inches across by 1 3/8 inches high. There's a secure rollover clasp. These pins were custom made back in the 1930's...very unique and this one is in excellent condition.
