An excellent example of Majolica pottery. This Majolica fish pitcher stands a tall 8 inches. Its colors are mostly blues, browns and aqua. The fishes scales are mostly in deep blue greens with the front being in off white. An open mouth for pouring out the liquid with the tail being the handle. Some crazing shows up on the front area and a couple pops of paint the rest in very good condition. A spot of brown paint on the bottom of the pitcher I believe is the makers mark. This beautiful footed bowl (or compote) was made by Joseph Holdcroft. Holdcroft was best known for the majolica pieces he created in England between 1870 and 1885. This piece is from the "pond lily" line. As the name would indicate, the bowl is formed from a number of overlapping lily pads. There are 4 flower blossoms within the bowl. Two are fully opened. This unusual teapot originates from the Isle of Man. It is executed in a heavy clay body and decorated with majolica glazes. The form is of a sailor sitting on a coil of rope with two legs down and a third in an amazing acrobatic feat forming the teapot spout behind him. He holds a Union Jack which forms the teapot handle. His head is removable and forms the lid. There is a chip inside the rim and damage which has been amateurishly repaired on the top of the hat. Even so this is a remarkable pie... Click for details

This lovely Majolica "Wild Rose On Tree Bark" Pitcher measures 6.5" tall and is 5.5" wide including the handle. There are a very few small nicks on the rim and some wear on the Green leaves and bark which is very normal for pottery of this age. There are 2 small missed glazed spots during the making of this piece. This pitcher dates to 1875 and is solid. Overall condition is considered to be excellent for it's age of nearly 130 years old. The pitcher is unmarked and the maker unknown to me.

Excellent old majolica bowl with water lily motif. It is in excellent condition with no chips or wear. Quite possibly by Holdcroft, although it is unmarked. It is 10 1/4" wide and about 4" high. A nice one!!!
