Jarko Zavi emigrated to Canada from Czechoslovakia before WWII. As a talented Sculptor and Artist his work consisted mainly of exquisitely stylized stoneware sculptures much like that of Latvian born Maigon Daga. This very textural vase is a departure from the work he is known for; the lower half is glazed in a soft blue-green as is the flute neck with natural unglazed clay center. The Shawnee Pottery Company operated in Zanesville Ohio between 1936 and 1961. This beautiful vase is an example of their work. It is marked Shawnee, USA, and numbered 827. It is called "Vase Embossed with Flowers". The decoration is diamonds connected by small flowers. It is gray in color and measures 6 7/8" tall, 6 3/4" at its widest, and has a diameter of 4 3/4 inches at the opening. It is in mint condition.
