All of the buttons I have up right now are the type with a loop on the back, and they appear to be some kind of plastic. This group of 13 buttons has assorted designs in a silver tone on red button, they measure about 7/8". (I think only 14 made it into the picture - there are 15.) I have no idea of their age.

I have a total of 20 of these buttons but have divided them into two groups of 10. They measure about 1-1/8", and have a carved jet look.

I have no idea of their age.These buttons measure a little over 1" diameter, and have a swirled design. It's hard to explain, but they are mostly transpzrent, with the parts between the swirls more transparent so underlying cloth color would show through.
