Coin silver vinaigrette by Wood & Hughes, New York City (c. 1870), 1-1/8” long by ¾” wide by ¼” high, hinged at back with small thumb grip on cover in front, cover with vine decoration around edges, feather script monogram “S H” on cover with the “Hand of God” symbol between the initials, inside of box, including grating, is silver gilt, marked inside box on bottom “W& H” incuse.

Large cartouche and engine turning. Height 5-7/8" Mouth diameter 3". Weight of pair 7-1/2 troy ounces. The monogram in the cartouche is Anna Kimball/from/E.P.T./June 4, 186a. Overall condition is excellent although one has no center ring between the cup and the base and is therefore slightly shorter.

Dating from the mid 1860s, this pedestal base, coin silver master salt is model number "510" as indicated by the stamp on the underside. It is also marked with Gorham's "lion, anchor, G" symbol.

It stands 2 1/8" high, has a top opening of 2", a maximum width of 2 3/8", a base diameter of 1 7/8", and weighs 1.9 T. oz.

Made c1753-60 -- 2-5/8"-tall cylinder opens on hinged cover to disclose steel grater, name of original owner, E.Keele, and the name of his home, Sarum, which is still located on State Rte 234 near Newport, MD. Patterson's mark -- I (pellet) P -- is struck inside the grater's cap.

Until recently, Pattison was located in research books as working in Annapolis, MD, c1750. Then, Catherine Hollan published her work on Virginia silversmiths. There was Pattison, relocated to Fredericksburg. ... Click for details
