Standing 3 3/16" tall, this item has a top diameter of 2 7/8", a base that is 2 3/8", and weighs just over 4.3 T. oz.

Marked "Sterling" and "Trees," and imprinted with a tree symbol, it is one of the most recognizable names in mint julep cups, Benjamin Trees of Lexington, Kentucky.

The exterior has a brilliant finish, while the interior is a brushed satin. The top and bottom have multi-lined, applied borders.

the bulbous body with applied egg and dart rim above; circular foot below, graceful c-scroll handle, height 5; length across handle 6 inches, weight 9.64 Troy ounces.

A hand wrought item with Garrard's usual exceptional quality, the subtle hammer marks are clearly visible from the interior. No monogram, a few very minor sins but fine overall condition. This little gem holds a pint of liquid without even breaking a sweat-- we think it would make a superb bar pitcher...

These items were part of a line of sterling made by the Stieff Silver Company of Baltimore on behalf of Colonial Williamsburg Restoration which was the sole retailer.

Dating circa 1975, they are reproduction items based on actual period pieces.

One is a 5 1/8" tall, 3.1 T. oz., pepper or salt caster. The other is a 1 3/8" tall, 3" base diameter tapering to a 2 3/8" top diameter, 1.8 T. oz., trencher salt with its original clear glass liner.

Relatively short-lived, born circa 1783, died 1835, Harvey Lewis nonetheless made a significant imprint in the realm of American silver smithing. His producing years, all in Philadelphia where he lived, extended from 1802-27.

Examples of his work can be found at Yale University, Winterthur, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A pair of canns, i.e. mugs, larger than but otherwise matching this one, are illustrated online, with a date of circa 1815, and identified as in a private collection.... Click for details

Part of a desk set made by Gorham, this 9 1/2" long by 3 1/2" wide, weighty at 5.3 T. oz., tray is identified in the company's 1902 catalogue as a "sealing set tray" (see image 2).

It appears to be a pen tray, and is indeed very similar to the item alongside it identified as that, but late Victorian sensibilities provided for separate items for each functional need of the time.

The piece is a true estate item, dating to the second quarter of the 20th century, and offered for the first time on behalf of the original owner.

It is lone coffee pot made imprinted on the underside "S. Kirk & Son," "Sterling," model number "184 A F," and "Hand Decorated."

It is a "Half Chased" Repousse, meaning there is a plain area on the upper and lower portions of the main part of the body.

Identified as an "important manufacturer," in the benchmark "Jackson's Hallmarks," Henry Holland, of Holland, Aldwinckle & Slater, was located in London, England, in the mid 19th century.

This example of his work is fully marked with his maker's "H.H," a date letter for 1858-59, London, sterling, and a queen's head.

A Providence, Rhode Island guild level retailer founded in the mid 19th century with principals related by marriage to the Gorham family, Tilden-Thurber Company was throughout its history a source of high quality silver offerings.

Such is represented in this 7" diameter, 1 1/8" high, very heavy at 11.4 T. oz., open bowl. It is stamped on the underside "Tilden-Thurber," "Sterling," and "943," and likely dates from early in the 20th century.

The website of the "Small Collectors of Antique Silver" states that "Vinaigrettes, popular from the late 18th century through the mid-19th century, were small containers used for holding various aromatic substances, usually dissolved in vinegar. A tiny piece of sponge, soaked in the liquid, was contained beneath a grill or perforated cover."
