This sterling silver olive spoon was made by Paye and Baker and is 7 1/4" long. The pattern is Poppy, an art nouveau design that dates from 1908. The line was highly successful, and not surprisingly so given the pattern's wonderfully undulating and textured elements. This has no monogram or removal (there would scarcely be a spot to engrave one) and is in flawless condition. Marks are P&B in hearts and the word Sterling.

Watson Princess Sterling Horseradish Spoon

Dating from the 1890's, the design of Watson's Princess bespeaks its period. It is a fulsome leafy scroll design as abundantly expressive in style as the late Victorian era was. This item is a 5 3/4" long horseradish spoon. The form is characterized by a paddle-like, cupped bowl, which indeed this piece has. It is in flawless condition and is without a monogram or removal. Marks are the Watson (Mechanics) pennant emblem, and the word Sterling.

This solid sterling silver bonbon in Durgin's Chrysanthemum is 5 1/8" long. It is a fully authentic, early example marked with the Durgin "D," 925/1000, Patent, and stamped S.C. & L. for Boston's Shreve, Crump and Low. It is without a monogram or removal and is in very good condition. The surface of the serving area shows very faint traces of an original gold wash, and is slightly mottled in places where black spots were polished off.

Baltimore Rose was made by Schofield Silver (later acquired by Kirk-Stieff) in two versions, plain back and decorated back. This is the decorated back style and is a 6 1/4" long sugar spoon with a plum shaped bowl. It is relatively heavy at 1.3 T. oz., and has a script "L" on the reverse. It is an early piece marked with the Schofield emblem, the word Sterling, and with "Balto. Rose" stamped on the heel of the bowl. This sterling silver cucumber server was made by Weidlich in a pattern that does not seem to be documented. It is 6 1/2" long overall, light weight, and has a round, pierced serving end that is approximately 1 3/4" in diameter. The design is a decorated pointed antique, with bellflower, urn, and anthemion elements and likely dates something post 1910. This is in flawless condition, and is without a monogram or removal. Marks are the Weidlich emblem and the word Sterling.

This matched pair of footed open dishes may be master salts or for nuts. They were made by Simons Brothers of Philadelphia around 1900. They are stamped with an S in a shield mark, the word Sterling, and the model number 1480. Each item stands 1 1/2" high, is 2 3/8" long and 1 3/8" wide, and the pair together weigh 2.6 T. oz. As attractive as this design is, it is surprising that it is not more readily found. The pattern is Empire by Reed & Barton, dating from 1892. It features a dense array of posies, set with an asymmetrical shield reserve. A griffin sits at the base of the design and, in combination with the name and the shield element, suggests something of a heraldic theme. While commonly labeled a demitasse cup, this diminutive sized item is identified in the 1906/7 Gorham catalog as a coffee cup. It consists of a reticulated sterling silver holder with a porcelain liner made by Lenox (with the green blue mark). Overall height is 2 1/4", with a top diameter of 2 5/16".
