Offered is a very nice table knife from France and probably the mid-19th Century - the knot-type pattern mixes well with a lot of coin silver patterns. This piece is marked with the 950 standard mark (Minerva head in a punch with clipped corners) adopted after 1838. There appears to be no maker's mark. This knife measures about 8 1/8 inches. It is not monogrammed or crested. Condition is very good overall, with minor wear from normal use but no notable dents and no splits or repairs. All... Click for details

length 8 inches, total Troy weight 10.49 ounces, monogrammed "B.B." (script, obverse). These have seen some hefty use by hungry hands. There is a bit of wear where they meet the plate, some of which encroaches upon the engraving. That said, they do still have a certain charm, excellent diaper work and scrolled decoration, and a wonderful feel in the hand. Marked "patent 1855 / coin" (mark is worn).

To give these some historical perspective, consider that the high relief, elaborately detailed patterns such as New Art and Chrysanthemum didn't spring into existence out of nowhere.
