Each of these four forks measures 7 3/8" long and is heavy, with the set weighing 6.2 T. oz. They date from the third quarter of the 19th century and all have a fancy, feathered script "ELH" monogram set sideways on the handle.

The pattern is "Fleur de Lis" by Albert Coles, whose three part pseudo hallmark is stamped on the backsides.

They are in excellent condition. The tines are all even, pointed, and straight. There is no obvious polishing wear, with the pattern detail and... Click for details

Marked twice D.V.VOORHIS in a rectangle, plus an eagle with a shield on its chest, in a diamond cartouche. Bright cut, modeled drop, tipt on back. Length 9". Weight just over 2 troy oz. each. Lengthwise script monogram LAC in a reserve. Overall condition is excellent. Mark condition is very good (one spoon has the mark rubbed at one end, the other spoon with mark rubbed at the other end).

Oval-end handle, c1795 -- raised pointed drop, reverse tipt, feathered script mono J E S on front; 8-3/4" long. Condition is excellent. Pseudo marks (as shown) are a sunburst and a lion, both upside down in relation to A&R mark. NOTE: beaded edge, the first flatware pattern, originated in England in the 18thC. This is perhaps the first U.S. example of the pattern. It became common here, of course, in the 1830s and beyond.

This lot consists of three, coin silver teaspoons dating from the late 18th to the early 19th centuries. Two are are by Philadelphia's Joseph Lownes, 1758-1820.

One of the Lownes is 5 3/8" long, just under .5 T. oz., has a slight tip end on the reverse, an exposed drop, and a feathered script "EM" monogram. The condition is good. There is polishing wear and there are light surface scratches, but it retains a well-shaped bowl.

Dating c. 1865, these seven, coin silver, "Tipt End" teaspoons fall into two groups.

Three were made by Gorham, marked lion, anchor, G, and have feathered script "SC" monograms. They measure 6" long each, while the set weighs approximately 1.8 T. oz. They carry the retail name "Rhoads," for Charles G. Rhoads of Lancaster, Pennsylvannia.

The second set is also coin silver, and comprised of four spoons, 5 7/16" long, approximately 2.3 T. oz. collectively, with feathered script "SST"... Click for details

Forward-tipt fiddle handle, c1830 -- high pointed shoulders, drop on bowl back, feathered script mono E S N on front; 9" in length. Condition is mint, extended bowl tip unworn. Both maker's name and town in which he worked struck on back of handle (as shown). Can't find the mark in any of the usual and many of the unusual references.

Each of these eight egg (or could be used for ice cream) spoons is lengthy at 5 5/8", while the group weighs 5.4 T. oz. They all match and carry the same Old English "E.L.F." monogram. Five of them are stamped "Wm. Gale & Son," and three are stamped only "Sterling."

The pattern is a knot (similar to "Le Cordon") and leaf design dating c. 1860. The five spoons marked "Gale" retain full gold wash finishes on both sides of the bowls, while the "Sterling" ones show only traces of gold.

Pointed-end handle, narrow pointed-arch drop on bowl back, brightcutting and roulette work half-way down handle, feathered script mono L M N in cartouche on front. Length is 9-3/4". Weight is a hefty 15 T oz. Condition is mint -- extended bowl tips unworn. Sayre learned his trade on Long Island. By the turn of the century, he had moved on to NYC.
