This weighty, 3.0 T. oz., 9" long, c. 1865 solid silver pie server, aka pie knife, is marked for the Brockton, Massachusetts jeweler "Gurney Brothers" ("Bro's." as stamped). Also marked "Pure-Coin," this doubtlessly has Boston origins, likely made by Farrington and Hunnewell, based on the design. It has an Old English, i.e. downturned, rounded end, Reverse Tipt handle. Providence circa 1790, downturned pointed end with slashed drop, length 8 3/4 inches, weight 1.84 oz. Troy, marked and monogrammed as shown in enlargements.
There are some faint lines in the bowl (see fourth photo), probably where a few dents were rolled out, but the overall condition of this spoon is exceptional, with little or no tip wear, a well-struck mark, and excellent weight.

According to Flynt & Fales, Dole was an exceptionally meticulous spoon maker who was "known to be very exact in his habits, so much so that people set their clocks by his movements about town."
