A fine American coin silver teaspoon by Maryland and Pennsylvania silversmith Emanuel (Emmanuel) Holsey, born circa 1798, who apprenticed with Henry Biershing of Washington County, MD circa 1815. Holsey worked in Williamsport, MD circa 1820-21, Hagerstown, MD circa 1821-23, and Chambersburg, PA circa 1823-39. He died in 1849 in Union County (probably IL or PA). A good small American coin silver teaspoon by an undocumented silversmith with maker's mark of O. Pierce (first name unknown), circa 1812-24. Although this mark has traditionally been associated with a Boston tradesman circa 1824, which would fit by style, there is also an Oliver Pierce, "jeweller" (or silversmith), listed in the New York city directory for 1812, at 189 William St. He is not listed in the 1813 directory. A good American coin silver tea spoon by Philadelphia silversmith and spectacle maker Christian Smith, circa 1820-30. This maker's work is rarely seen. This spoon is marked with the maker's mark of "C.Smith" in script, and the familiar Philadelphia eagle pseudo-hallmark. The spoon is engraved with a period script monogram of CSG. Dating from very early in the history of the company founded in 1853, this 6 5/8" long, just over .8 T. oz., preserve spoon is stamped "Wm. B. Durgin" and "Pure Coin."

Apparently it was a line pattern given that a variety of pieces still show up, but is unnamed. It has a flat handle with a chiseled looking margin and an extensively bright cut and engraving surface. The backside is plain, save for the marks. The bowl is a shell form with scalloped edges.

Stamped "R&W. Wilson." for the Philadelphia partnership dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, this coin silver dinner fork is to a European scale rather than American, and is sometimes referred to as "banquet" size. It measures 8 1/4" long and weighs approximately 2.0 T. oz.

The pattern is a "Thread" aka "French Thread," and appears on the front and back sides. There is a fancy, feathered script "JB" monogram.

Made c1753-60 -- 2-5/8"-tall cylinder opens on hinged cover to disclose steel grater, name of original owner, E.Keele, and the name of his home, Sarum, which is still located on State Rte 234 near Newport, MD. Patterson's mark -- I (pellet) P -- is struck inside the grater's cap.

A pattern that was made in both coin and sterling silver, "Strawberry" originated with William B. Durgin. This was one of the first die struck designs produced by the company he founded in 1853.

This 8 1/2" long berry, 1.9 T. oz., berry spoon is marked "Patent" and "Pure Coin" suggesting it was early in the production history of the pattern. It has a plum-shaped bowl and is engraved "GB" in a fancy, feathered script on the backside.

A fine set of six American coin silver teaspoons by little-known watchmaker and jeweler Asa Hartshorn, who was working and advertising as a watchmaker and jeweler as early as 1818 in Montrose, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Hartshorn bought the drugstore in Montrose around 1826 and also continued to function as a jeweler. He sold out in 1833. Hartshorn's mark is very uncommon.
