New Orleans circa 1858, length 8 3/4 inches, some minor dents in bowls but no tip wear, good overall condition and above average weight; monogrammed "F.M.P." (script, obverse). Items bearing the mark of L. Simons (see second photo) would appear to be scarce.

A.B. Griswold & Co, New Orleans, length 5 7/8 inches, monogrammed "ML" (reverse, script with flourishes). These are not in the best condition, with some dents and tip wear, but they did spend time in our great Crescent City... Please see second photo for mark.

Downturned handles with pointed ends, roulettework incised V drops. Also roulettework engraving on the handles. The length of one spoon is 5-1/2", the other 5-3/16" (the difference is in the length of the bowls as well as the handles). One spoon has the block monogram SB, the other SP. Overall condition of both spoons is excellent. Mark condition of one spoon is excellent, the other good. The "I" in the mark is most likely to be for someone with a first name starting with J. Not a pair - one bowl wider than the other, bright-cutting different, length different; but undoubtedly both were made and engraved by the same person. One has a block monogram EB, the other AWB. Not by a big city silversmith. Likely that the "I" in the mark is for a makwer with first name beginning with J. Length of 1 is 5-3/8"; the other 5-1/4".Overall condition is good-(one bowl may have been repaired and has light toothmarks).... Click for details
