Produced by prominent Seattle firm, Mayer Brothers, whose "pick & shovel" emblem appears on the backside, along with "Sterling," this spoon measures 5 3/4" long and weighs .9 T. oz. It is a Hawaii souvenir piece portraying a variety of location appropriate images, including a portraiture of the state seal, a pineapple, and palm and banana trees. Arguably the most widely collected among all souvenir spoons, the two versions of "Salem Witch" spoons retailed by Salem, Massachusetts' Daniel Low & Co. helped fuel the enthusiasm for all such items. One design was made by Durgin, and the other, of which this 4 1/4" long, just under .5 T. oz., coffee spoon is an example, was made by Gorham.
