Issued early in the 20th century, Gorham's "Poppy" was an expressive iteration of this popular floral motif.

The design incorporates numerous blossoms and buds along with trailing leaves on both sides of the handle and the heel reverse.

This example is a 5 3/4" long, .8 T. oz., grapefruit or citrus spoon. It has a lengthy, narrow, deep, bowl with a flange rim and pointed tip, which is finished in a bright gold wash front and back.

Measuring 8 5/16" long and weighing a substantial 2.2 T. oz., this serving, i.e. large table, spoon traces to the end of the 19th century.

The pattern, "La Reine," was made by Reed & Barton and first issued in 1893.

It incorporates a high relief, leaf and scroll motif, which apropos of the name, exhibits a French design influence.

Devised in 1900 by the Graf Niemann Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the "Earl Patent Fork" was an adaptation of a standard youth implement.

This example is based on a 5 7/16" long, just over .6 T. oz., fork in Whiting's "Louis XV" pattern. It is fitted with a finger slot (with trim matching the pattern) on the back, intended to direct the way the child would hold the piece.

Length 5 3/4 inches, weight 1.67 Troy ounces, engraved on reverse of bowl "Edna from Louise '92", excellent original condition with only the slightest loss of gilding to high points. This item is becoming increasingly difficult to find.

Without a formal name, but commonly referred to as "Peony" for the large, single, arched, blossom that appears on the end of the handle, this circa 1885 pattern is also characterized by its twist stem.

While not a line pattern, it has the plain, clean style of an Arts & Crafts piece, akin to Tiffany's "Gramercy" or "Hamilton," and, as do those pieces, likely dates from the second or third decade of the 20th century.
