Measuring 7 3/8" long and weighing 1.7 T. oz., this sterling silver sugar sifter is a fine example of quality 18th century English silversmithing.

The marks are rubbed, but clear enough to identify the maker's stamp, TC on the horizontal intersecting with WC on the vertical, belonging to Thomas and William Chawner, as attributed by Grimwade in the "unregistered marks" section. The leopard and lion are blurred but legible, while the date letter is difficult to identify precisely, but the... Click for details

"Moresque" examples present with slight variations from piece to piece. These variations include the utilization of a plain disc on the handle, set on the front or backside, or on both sides, as is the case... Click for details

Dating from 1885, Gorham's "Old Masters" scarcely has any parallels in the realm of American sterling silver flatware.
