Measuring 8 7/8" long and weighing 2.0 T. oz., this berry or serving spoon was made by Gorham and stamped with that company's lion, anchor, G symbol. Other marks include Patent 1871 and Sterling.

The pattern is Corinthian. Apropos of the name, it has a fan or leaf design element akin to Gorham's Grecian patented in 1861, but overall is Moorish in feel. It is double die struck, meaning the design appears on both sides of the handle.

The bowl is plum shaped, with a central rib, flanged... Click for details

Despite only a “sterling” marking, the design elements of this spoon are clearly Philadelphian. The stem is Old English with multi-field outlining, leaving an area for a monogram, JIS. The bowl is pointed with a slight flange that is described by a zigzag element, and the bowl has a geometric, aesthetic center which is both bright-cut and engraved. The condition is excellent – no bends or dents, and no wear to the surface. Lots of reflectivity! Length is 7.8 in. and weight is 42 g.

No maker's mark, but it's safe to assume that Gebelein was responsible for this piece, c1920. It is, of course, marked STERLING. The sheaf and sickle design is quite similar to the original of 100 years earlier, but differs somewhat in the details. This ladle is 13-3/4" long and weighs 6-1/2 Troy oz. It has high square shoulders, with double pouring lips on the bowl. It has never been engraved. Condition is minty. Repro or not, this is an imposing piece of silver.
