Conves; satin finish; applied molded base; single scroll hollow handle. Marked TIFFANY&CO/1466/QUALITY 925 1000/5143/m (1865-1870). Height 3-1/2". Diameter of mouth 3"; of base 2-3/8". Weight 5.9 troy ounces. The monogram on the front in Old English is: Julia (could be erased). Overall condition is excellent.

We come across these small coffin-end ladles -- mustards, gravy, sauce -- from time to time and they all seem to be made in New England, particularly in the City of Providence. It is for that reason (and the lack of any other candidate) that we attribute this neat piece to William Burr (see pix of WB mark). This ladle has a cut-cornered fiddle end and is 5-1/4" long. The mono is C L in feathered script. Condition is excellent throughout.

Made by Sigourney & Hitchcock, Watertown, NY, for the Jeff. Co. Agl. Soc. (see pix). Watertown is the center of Jefferson County in upstate NY. Description of the spoons is as follows: forward-tipt fiddle handles, flared shoulders, 6" in length. Condition is very good - a few bowl dings and very little wear. Agricultural premium silver is always interesting as an artifact of 19thC rural American history.

Set of 6 forward-tipt fiddle-handled teaspoons with flared shoulders. Feathered script mono J.L.C. on front; 5-7/8" long, excellent condition. NOTE: In putting together the book on North Carolina silversmiths, Cutten assumed that the N.C. following the Hanna mark referred to North Carolina, and that silver found with the mark was made by an unidentified NC smith. On the basis of style (wide stubby fiddle handle and unusual high angular shoulders), we've attributed this piece to B.B. Hastings of Cleveland. The ladle is 6-1/8" long and the mono is I.A.A. in feathered script. Aside from an incompletely struck mark, condition is excellent.

Elliptical bases with cut designs on two edges. See Ulehla's "The Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston Exhibition Record 1897-1927" for Daniel Reese in 1927. He is listed in the 1930 census of Boston as a manufacturer of silverware. Height 6-1/8". Base length 4-1/2"; width 3-7/8". Bobeche diameter 2-1/2". Weight 12 troy ounces. Marked Reese (in a cartouche)/STERLING (in an ellipse). No monogram. Overall condition and mark condition excellent.
