Offered is a very scarce example of the wares and mark of Jacob Goodlive & Co., working in St. Joseph, Missouri in the 1860s. This mark is so uncommon that Norman Mack was unable to find a single example in 20 years of intensively collecting and studying Missouri coin silver, and his book "Missouri's Silver Age" states that not a single example has been found. Offered is a nice and scarce example of the late work of noted colonial Virginia silversmith James Geddy (1731-1807), who worked in various locations, most notably in Williamsburg, and late in life in Petersburg. This Virginia coin silver spoon should date to the 1783-1807 period during which Geddy was working in Petersburg. Born in 1827 in Newburyport, Massachusetts, William P. Jones apprenticed with William Moulton IV of the renowned family of silversmiths, as did contemporary, Anthony Francis Towle.

The two men established a partnership, which through a series of transitions eventually became Lunt Silversmiths, thus there is a long silversmithing lineage represented in this 6 3/16" long, .5 T. oz., sugar, or possibly small jelly, spoon marked "W. P. Jones" and "Coin."

About as large as such an item might be, this napkin ring stands 2" high, is 1 13/16" in diameter, and weighs a robust 1.9 T. oz.

It was made by Gorham, whose "lion, anchor, G" emblem, "Sterling," model number "1670," and date letter "Q" for 1884 are stamped on the inside wall.

Plain sided, there are double rolled bands of roses with thorny vines and leaves set on the bias, impressed top to bottom. This alternates with diamond bright cut detailing bordering the rolled bands... Click for details

Period items dating to the mid 19th century, each of these two footed master salts is stamped "10.15" for the peculiar-to-Baltimore area silver standard that is roughly equivalent to coin.

Round and matching, each one measures 2 1/4" in diameter and 1 1/4" tall. They are moderately heavy, weighing 2.5 T. oz. combined.

Generously-sized, this tea ball is a 1 3/4" diameter perfect sphere, hung from a 5 3/4" long chain with a ring end.

Solid silver, it weighs just over 1.0 T. oz. and is marked on the inside lip of the top half, "Sterling" and with the three part emblem of the "Howard Sterling Company," Providence, Rhode Island, used 1891-1901.

The interior of both the top and bottom are stamped "24."
