Dating from 1880, Whiting's "Persian" is a Moresque design deriving from the same sensibilities that generated Tiffany's pattern of the same name, as well as Whiting's own "Arabesque" and Gorham's "Hindostanee" among others. This example is a 7 1/2" long, 1.5 T. oz., preserve or jelly spoon. It has the plum-shaped bowl with flanged rim and central rib that Whiting used across several lines of the period. This pattern has always been a personal favorite. Note the expressiveness of the eyes, which you may examine up close in photo number three.

indeed riotous chrysanthemum decoration, height 3 3/4 inches, weight 3.32 Troy ounces, top diameter 2 3/8 inches, applied circular cartouche with no monogram, seamed construction, a minor test file mark on base (please see fourth photo at nine-o-clock position) but excellent overall condition.

Tuck Chang worked in Shanghai, and this piece dates from about 1890. My suspicion is that a bit of Scotch will taste better than ever when sipped from his beaker, but I'll wait until this evening... Click for details

Place pieces are much rarer than servers in this grand old Durgin pattern whose name is a subject of some disagreement, which leads me to believe that not many were produced.

Whiting's "Imperial Queen" is a late 19th century design based on English antecedents. These two examples, a 5 1/2" long, .9 T. oz. sauce or cream ladle, and a 4 1/2" long, just over .4 T. oz., bon bon or nut spoon, are flawless, absolutely mint, examples without monograms or removals. They both have matte finish, gold washed serving ends. Marks on the reverses are Whiting's lion emblem, "Sterling," "Pat. 1893," and an Old English "O."

Measuring 5 1/2" long and weighing 1.2 T. oz., this sterling silver cream ladle is an old example of Gorham's "Chantilly." It is is flawless condition and without a monogram or removal. There is no polishing wear and the finish is lustrous. The lobed bowl has flanged shoulders and has a bright gold wash finish on the interior. Marks are the Gorham lion, anchor, G, "Sterling," and "Pat. 1895."

This is William Rogers Mfg. Co., Hartford, Conn, vintage, quadruple plate serving dish with ornate handle and pedestal base. It has the number 937 on the bottom of the dish. This piece is in good condition. It is quite lovely. But it shows overall wear including discoloration found throughout. There are a few light scratches inside the "bowl" of the dish. It measures 10" in diameter and 7" high with the handle DOWN. It has a very ornate handle and the edge of the dish around the top... Click for details

This is a very nice vintage WM. A. ROGERS silverplate butter dish, footed, with a glass insert tray and lid. It measures 8" long, 5" wide and 3" tall with the handle. Please look at both of the photo enlargements . As you can see , there are several dark spots. The piece needs cleaning . A QUALITY CLEANING & POLISHING WILL ENHANCE THIS ITEM. THERE ARE DARK SPOTS ON IT NOW. I THINK a good cleaning would remove these spots. It is a very elegant butter dish and has charm. Please see both... Click for details
