Canton circa 1825, double struck fiddle thread and shell with classic "inset vee" or "Chevron" seam construction, length 11 7/8 inches, weight 6.9 Troy ounces, a minor test mark as shown in enlargement number four but outstanding overall condition, no monogram.

This is a gravy ladle or serving spoon. It is marked Nobility Plate. (Silverplate.) Needs polishing desperately but I am not sure if I should polish it or leave it up to the new owner. About 8" long. One of Gorham's earliest line patterns, "Josephine" is a leaf motif that has contemporaneous parallels with designs produced by William Gale and James Watts. This matched fish serving fork and spoon is an exceptionally fine example in the line and reflects the best of the burgeoning capacities of mid 19th century American silver manufacturing.

One of Gorham's earliest and most enduring patterns, dating from 1861, "Cottage" takes its design inspiration from French antecedents. Otherwise relatively plain, it has a double lined border with scroll detailing midway up the handle and at the tip.

Measuring 5 3/4" long, and weighing just over over .6 T. oz., this sterling silver ladle has a singular dimension and form 1 3/8" diameter by 3/8" deep, flat bottomed bowl with scalloped edges and a coffered wall.

circa 1816, length 10 3/4 inches, wear to pattern, minor dents and other sins, engraved with crest and motto "Tria Juncto in Uno," four by maker S P and two by someone else.

Knives are always tough to find in antique King's and related patterns. These are especially well suited to use, with their stainless blades by Robert F. Mosley of Sheffield which look to have been done in the 1930's. About as close as we get to shabby chic...

Gale & Mosely, New York circa 1830, double struck-- for the uninitiated, this means the pattern is both front and back, length just shy of 8 1/2 inches, some very slight tine wear on a few (we've pictured the worst one in enlargement number four) but superb overall condition, weight 30.74 Troy ounces (!!) or 2.79 each on average, no monogram.

One would be hard-pressed indeed to find a better set of dinner forks.

Please note: While one is illustrated, this listing is for a pair of matching teaspoons. They carry the unique Baltimore assay and date marks for 1824, along with the maker's stamp, "Kirk." They are to a Baltimore standard for silver, which would have been 11/12 or 10.15, roughly equivalent to coin.

By Ralph Grimm, veteran of World War I who lost both legs in the war and learned silversmithing at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC after the war. Length of strainer 5-3/4", width 3-1/4", height on holder 2-1/8", height of strainer 3/4". Weight of silver 2-1/2 troy ounces. Overall and mark condition are excellent. This medium sized, open bowl has a top diameter of 6 5/8", sits on a flat base that is 3 1/2" across, stands 2 1/2" high, and weighs 10.8 T. oz. It carries the mark for Karl F. Leinonen who was the head smith in Boston's "Handicraft Shop" founded in 1901. He later established his own operation and in the course of things became a prominent name in the American A&C movement. Other marks include the model number "18" and the word "Sterling."

These six coin silver teaspoons are exceptionally fine examples of mid 19th century coin silver. They all match and are marked with the three part pseudo hallmark of Albany, New York's Johnson & Godley (1843-50), and the name of the retailer, "Hood & Tobey," also of Albany and with overlapping dates with J&G.

Each spoon measures a slightly over-sized 6 1/4" long, while the group weighs 3.4 T. oz. They have tipt ends and the same double monograms, "F.S.N." and "E.S." in script lettering.... Click for details
