Philadelphia circa 1795, with applied beaded border, square base, sunken center and handle offset to the corners, height 6 3/4 to top of spout; base 2 1/2 inches, weight 5.70 Troy ounces, monogrammed I * A on foot.

There is some rather sloppy soldering on the beaded border beneath the spout (I do not believe this to be a repair) which we show in agonizing detail, see image four, and the overall color indicates that there may have been either a removal or some machine polishing at one... Click for details

2724f   $34.00

Dating from early in the 20th century, Watson's "Orleans" is an acid etched design with a decidedly French sensibility to it.

It incorporates a central shield-like reserve on the upper front side and a corresponding open area on the backside. These areas are surrounded by tracery that is interspersed with numerous fleurs-de-lis, which are representative of the city which presumably inspired the pattern.

This example is a 6 1/8" long, just over 1.0 T. oz., sugar spoon. It has a... Click for details

He may or may not have been related to the famous silversmith Charles Frederick Billon of St. Louis, and his progeny. This dessert spoon should date by style to the 1849-65 era. It is marked with... Alvin "Edward VII" Large & Heavy Sterling Silver Cold Meat Fork
Silver : Sterling : Flatware

Old Friends
2718f   $135.00

A "noble" pattern both in theme and presentation, and not so readily found, Alvin's 1899 "Edward VII is nearly without peer in the realm of silver patterns. The design is singular. The only near match is Whiting's "Heraldic," while a weak equivalent is Baker-Manchester's "Spartan."

All three feature a knight's helmet at the handle end, which is also embellished with scrolling acanthus leaves. Alvin's is the most robust of the three iterations, as is evidenced by the scale of this serving... Click for details

This 7 1/2" long, weighty at 2.1 T. oz., ladle is unusual in that the 2 1/4" round bowl has a flat bottom with nearly straight sidewalls, rather than the typical curved or inverted dome interior.

It is marked "J.E. Caldwell" for Philadelphia's carriage trade firm, along with the word "Sterling."
