A late 18th century item, these sterling sugar nips are stamped on each finger holder with a lion and "RM" for Robert Makepeace II whose mark was entered into the London registry in 1795 (Grimwade). Noted as a good maker in "Jackson's Hallmarks," his capacities show in this item measuring 5" long and weighing 1.3 T. oz. They are solid silver, with cast, scroll form arms and clam shell grips. Measuring 9" long and weighing just under 2.5 T. oz., this item has a large, ovoid bowl that measures 3 3/8" by 2 9/16". It has a flange rim with notched shoulders, pointed tip, and, while similar to a berry, the relatively shallow depth suggests it was likely was a much less common pudding serving spoon. An early, coin silver, example of Gorham's "Grecian," this piece is marked "Patent 1861," with the company "lion, anchor, G" emblem, and "Shreve, Stanwood & Co.," which was a predecessor... Mustard pot The mustard pot has a matte finish with four large ideograms in large reserves on the sides, single scroll handle, round finial, 3-lug hinge, lid cutout for spoon but no spoon. Each of these two identical place forks measures 7 1/16" long. They are heavy, with the pair weighing 3.4 T. oz. combined. Dating from the late 19th century, they are high quality items stamped "Hennegan, Bates Co." for the prominent Baltimore firm, and "Sterling."
