Listed in the Tompkins "Handbook of Gorham Open Salt Dishes" with a date of 1885, model number "2155" is a flat bottomed, relatively large item.

Each of these examples measures 2 3/8" across, stands 7/8" high, and weighs approximately 1.0 T. oz. They have scrolled edges, rippled ("pie crust") rims, and gold washed interiors, although that is largely polished away in one of these.

There are no monograms, inscriptions, or removals.

These are substantial and well made spoons, weighing in at 4.69 oz. Troy, the lot. The overall condition is excellent. Whether any of this lends them a premium over the silver value, or whether they'll be swallowed up by the smelter's gaping maw remains to be seen...

A 19th form, this cake knife aka cake saw (taken from the sawtooth top edge of the blade), is 9 3/8" long and weighs 2.4 T. oz. It is flat handled and solid silver. The pattern is "Domestic," by Gorham, dating from 1881. It features intricate ivy detailing, with a small bee and dragonfly beside a central rosette, and a fan end. Marked only "Sterling," this c. 1860's pattern is a Whiting design commonly identified as "Calla Lily," taken from the three dimensional flower that adorns the end of the handle.

This example is a large, 10 1/2" long, just under 2.6 T. oz., serving spoon. It has a wide and deep bowl (there is an otherwise identical spoon with a narrower bowl) resulting in a particularly generous capacity.

Philadelphia circa 1790, with round downturned end and rounded drop, length 14 1/4 inches, weight 6.0 Troy ounces, monogrammed "RRC" (period script, obverse), with a scratch below these initials as shown and a few minor nicks in bowl but very good overall condition.

In an attempt to distinguish this ladle from its peers, we'll mention that the bowl has a slight boat shape when viewed head on, as you may see in photo number four.

dessert spoons, Paris circa 1780, .950 standard, maker's mark LTA (please see fifth photo), total Troy weight 20.75 ounces, some light wear but fine overall condition, with crest as shown though one spoon also has a period script "S" monogram. The forks measure 20.5 and the spoons 19.5 centimetres.

French silver from this period is quite scarce. Price is for the total of eight pieces.

Measuring 6" across, standing 1 1/2" high, and weighing approximately 2.9 T. oz., this sterling silver dish is model number 510 made by Meriden Britannia and retailed by W. Wattles & Sons of Pittsburgh, as indicated by the marks on the underside.

The style is decidedly Art Nouveau with a date c. 1900.

The pattern is a flowing, highly articulated, lily motif. A popular floral subject, this lily would be compatible with flatware of the same design such as produced by Whiting, "Frontenac"... Click for details
