Four Prince Albert Coin Silver Heavy Place Spoons
Silver: Coin Silver: Flatware: Early Patterns
Old Friends
910a $ 160
These four, matching, coin silver spoons are an unusual 7 3/4" long. They would have been place pieces, used perhaps for soup, porridge or dessert. They are stamped "S.T. Crosby," which dates them 1854-59. Whether they were manufactured by this Boston firm, or simply retailed by that operation is uncertain. Either could be the case. The pattern, Prince Albert, is most associated with Michael Gibney, but shows up with many makers' and retailers' stamps. These are exceptionally well made, an... Click for details

Paye & Baker Poppy Sterling Horseradish Spoon
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
907a SOLD

P&B effected a gray finish to the silver in this pattern, which enhanced the design further. This item is a 7 1/8" long, sterling silver horseradish spoon, as identified in the company's 1908 catalog. It is in flawless condition, and without a monogram or monogram removal. These six round soup or bouillon spoons are early examples of Gorham's Strasbourg. Each piece is stamped with a lion, anchor, G and the word Sterling. Gorham Isis Sterling Silver Sugar Spoon
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
902a $ 325
Gorham's Isis is an Egyptian Revival 1870 design that, popular in its time, continues to hold great allure to the present day. This example is a 6 5/8" long, sterling silver sugar spoon. It has an Old English "B" monogram, that, curiously, straddles the right angle formed by two facets of the four-sided, hollow handle. This application must have presented a modest challenge to the engraver, whose skills were equal to the task given the precisely aligned result. The condition is very good. T... Click for details

Wedding is a thoroughly engaging, figural pattern produced by Gorham in the 1860's. This piece is a 9 1/8" long serving spoon, with a flowing "EIS" (?) monogram. Gorham 1870's Aesthetic Sterling Sugar Sifter
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
900a $ 325
Gorham produced a series of hollow-handle items in the 1870's which remain without an identified pattern name. This 8" long, sterling silver sugar sifter, or possibly ice spoon, is an example of the line. It has a satin matte finish, with banding and bright cutting on the handle. The 2 1/4" square bowl is intricately pierced and engraved, and has four vee shaped channels that merge in the center of the base. The form and cutting on the bowl suggests a palmetto or lotus leaf, similar in style... Click for details
