Peter Krider's entry into the 1860's Medallion category of design features a cast figure of a youthful Mercury. This ensemble is a three piece youth set in its original box. The knife is 7 1/2" long and solid coin silver. It has a blunt-end blade and flat handle. The fork is 6 5/16" and the spoon is 5 7/8". All three pieces are heavy, and are stamped "P.L.K." and inscribed "Annie" in script. They all have appealing period engraving and wriggle work detailing. The condition is very good. ... Gorham's Josepine can be identified from its "Pat. '55" mark, which this has. It is also stamped "Coin" and "S." This example is a 5 7/8" long, shell bowl sugar spoon. The dominant element of the design is an acanthus leaf surrounded by two scrolls surmounted by a small fan. This motif is expanded upon on the outside heel of the bowl. The condition is mint. The form is flawless and the finish is finely patinated.

These six coin silver individual salt dishes remain with their original presentation box. The box has a purple velvet base with satin lid lining, and is stamped "Shreve, Stanwood & Co./Boston." This is an 1860-69 predecessor for today's Shreve, Crump & Low. Each salt stands 3/4" high and is 1 1/4" in diameter. This coin silver muffineer, or sugar caster, was made by New York's William Gale & Co. in 1853, as indicated by the marks on the underside. It is a noble item of staunch proportions. It stands 7" high, has a pedestaled base that is 2 3/4" in diameter, is 3 1/4" across at the widest part of the body, and weighs approximately 6.6 T. oz. It is amazing that this set has survived intact, almost, all these years through the ravages of history and the Civil War. The set comprises a finely engraved slice and twelve spoons with fluted bowls, all with spiral stems. There is a fitted box but its not in the best of health these days. It is missing one end but the hinge is and it does shut.
All the pieces are in wonderful condition except for a hairline crack about 0.25" long and a couple of dings in the bowl of one spoon. The damage is b... Click for details
