Very good quality salt spoon or ladle with pointed-end handle and beautiful feathered script monogram "R" made around 1790 by John Vernon of New York. The mark matches example "a" on page 421 of Marks of American Silversmiths in the Ineson-Bissell Collection by Louise Conway Belden. Condition is excellent. Length is 4 1/8 inches.

They are marked "W M & J.B. Mayo" and "W&H". The Mayo's were in business as a partnership 1867/68. W&H is Wood & Hughes of NY who made the set. Chicago, Ca 1867/68.

This Southern coin silver cup is 3 3/8" tall (not including the handle) and 2 5/8" in diameter. The handle seems to have never been off (thats a miracle!). There are a few minor dents around the lower part of the body. The decoration is crisp. It is marked "Gregg Hayden & Co" and "C&B". Gregg Hayden & Co were in Charleston and I am unable to locate C&B. It is monogramed ESB and is said to be from the Sumpter Bradley Estate. Charleston Ca 1845/50.

Colonial tablespoon by Joseph W. Hopkins (1730-1801), a Waterbury, Connecticut, silversmith whose work is quite scarce. It has a short midrib with a flat rounded end and a rounded drop. It is similar in form to a Hopkins spoon in the Yale University collection. The oval bowl shows very slight tipwear. There is a scratch in the bottom of the bowl which is visible in the photograph. The spoon is 8 1/4 inches long and has an interesting pricked monogram, K over S+L.

Good round end, downturned coin silver tablespoon by Samuel Richards, Jr., of Philadelphia, circa 1795. There is a period script monogram on the handle and it is tipt on the back of the handle and there is a broad drop. Minor tipwear. Length is 9 1/8 inches; weight is 1.65 troy ounces.

Fine bright-cut, pointed-end teaspoon by Charles Parkman of Boston dating from about 1790. It has an incised V drop and a period block monogram in the cartouche. The spoon is in excellent condition, measuring 5 1/4 inches. The mark appears to be a particularly well-struck example of mark "d" in Belden.

This 900 fine silver dish is 6 1/2" across and weighs approximately 5 T. oz. It has Mexican or Latin American origins, as indicated by the "Plata fina (900)" mark on the underside. It is a handsome, quality item, that appears to be hand-crafted. The edges are raised and finished with a scalloped border. There are five leaf-like repoussed embellishments spaced around the perimeter. The condition is outstanding. The form is flawless and the finish is brilliant.

Here is an early coin silver oval bowl with a complete set of Assay marks by S. Kirk c.1828. It is still in exceptional condition with crisp repousse decoration round the outside and sharp engraving on the inside. Early Baltimore silver is becoming a rarity and this is a fine example.

Here is a very fine early Georgian mug in exceptional condition. It has a wonderful patina and is free of any dents, repairs or any form of mishandling. In fact, it appears to have been treasured all its 271 years. It was made in London in 1736 by John or Joseph Clare. It has a magnificent coat of arms belonging to Rev. Edmond Hopper Carlis and the motto below it translates to:
"A subject faithful to the King and the safety of the Kingdom"

Oval form, 13-1/2" x 8-3/4", with applied twisted "rope" bands at rim and pedestal base, with rope handles at either end (see pic). This piece was never engraved and is in near-mint condition; it weighs 17 Troy oz. The date it was made is cited in the usual Gale signature; it is also marked "Sterling," an affectation of the mid-19thC, as there were no assay offices int he U.S. until about 1865.
