Mid 19th C. Pure Coin Engraved Preserve Spoon
Silver: Coin Silver: Serving Pieces
Old Friends
758a $ 48
Stamped only "Pure Coin," this circa 1860 spoon was undoubtedly made in New England, and probably for the Boston market. It is 6 5/8" long overall, and while the size of a sugar spoon, the large (2 1/4" by 1 5/8") shell bowl with a gold wash suggests this was for preserves or jelly. The piece has a very sharply defined, angular end, and is densely and skillfully engraved. The reverse is monogrammed "E.E.W." in script. An unassuming piece, the measure of refinement in this nonetheless clearly... Click for details
