Illustration is one of 4. Marked B.PITMAN in a rectangle. Downturned fiddle, sharp fins. Length 6-1/8". Weight a little over 1/2 troy ounce each. The monogram is a script N. Overall and mark condition are excellent (bowl tips near mint).

Two spoons made 20-25 years apart with 2 different marks, both cited in Darling's NY State Silversmiths. 1. 18thC, c1790 - pointed end, interesting double roulette drop, shaded block mono SM in cartouche on front; 9-1/8" long. Mark is J B (see pic). 2. Downturned fiddle handle, c1810-15 - no shoulders, long drop, ornate feathered script R C M on front; 9-1/2" long, extended bowl tip unworn. Mark is J. Bedford (see pic).

18thC pointed end spoons with pointed arch drops and reverse ribs; feathered script mono E I B on front; 9-3/8" long; 12-1/2 T oz. Condition is excellent, with only the slightest bit of tipwear. Mark is W pellet H, mark of the William Sr., as shown on page 68 of Gerstell's book on Lancaster smiths (see pic).

Made by Haddock, Lincoln & Foss, c1850 - typical boat form with reeded band applied at rim; script presentation at rear: ERC/from/SCS; 4-1/2" long x 2-3/4" wide. Condition is excellent throughout, including the planishing marks inside. This is a fine replication of a classic 18thC form.

Oval form, 13-1/2" x 8-3/4", with applied twisted "rope" bands at rim and pedestal base, with rope handles at either end (see pic). This piece was never engraved and is in near-mint condition; it weighs 17 Troy oz. The date it was made is cited in the usual Gale signature; it is also marked "Sterling," an affectation of the mid-19thC, as there were no assay offices in the U.S. until about 1865.

Coin silver gravy ladle, Matthew Pettit, New York City (c. 1811), 7-3/4" long, 2-1/2" by 2-1/8" oval bowl, broad drop, single struck Kings pattern (crisp), Old English monogram "M" on back, marked "M . P" (pellet raised) in rectangular punch.

These dessert forks are 6 5/8" and the pattern is "Fiddlethread". There is small amount of tine wear and 2 have tines that have been bent, but they are intact and not cracked. These have no monogram on the front and a small one on the back. They are marked "O. Reed" for Osman Reed of Philadelphia. Ca 1845.

Coffin end; incised arch drop. Length 4-5/8". The monogram is a block MP in a bright cut reserve. Mark condition is excellent; overall condition is also excellent except that one spoon has a bowl dent. These spoons could be a little earlier than 1805 judging by the block monogram and the small size of the spoons.
