Bright cut, pointed ends, incised V roulettework drop, not tipt. Not a pair - one bowl wider than the other, bright-cutting different, length different; but undoubtedly both were made and engraved by the same person. One has a block monogram EB, the other AWB. Not by a big city silversmith. Likely that the "I" in the mark is for a makwer with first name beginning with J. Length of 1 is 5-3/8"; the other 5-1/4".Overall condition is good-(one bowl may have been repaired and has light toothmarks). ... Click for details

Marked I.W.TUCKER/SANFRANCISCO.CAL, name and location each in a rectangle. Octagonal, double-scroll handle, engine-turned design with large reserve on the front. Applied molded rim top and base. Height of handle 3-13/16"; of body 3-1/4". Diameter of mouth 2-5/8"; of base 2-7/8". Weight 4-1/4 troy ounces. There is a script monogram M.C. on the front in a reserve. Mark condition is good; overall condition is also good (many minor dents in body).

Oval-end handles, c1790 -- drop on bowl backs, short reverse rib, 5-5/8" long. This is a mixed lot. The best is the engraving -- feathered script mono A P within a wreath cartouche topped by a ribbon. Two of the bowls have cracks and one has an old bowl repair. The mark is WA, the best of which is shown; most of the others are poorly struck. We believe WA is the mark of William Andras of NYC. Price includes U.S. delivery.

Thomas Bissbrown (Bisbrown, Brisbrown) was from Edinburgh, Scotland. He advertised in Quebec City in 1785, in Albany 1788-90, and in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1796.
