Round salver by Tiffany, Young & Ellis, NYC, 1850-2

This coin silver piece is also marked J.C.M. -- for John C. Moore, one of Tiffany's earliest silversmiths. These marks (see pix) were used only 1850-2 (see Rainwater). Salver is 7" in diameter and sits on 3 shell feet; its center is engraved with ornate scrolls and has an applied band at rim (see pic). It weighs 6-1/2 Troy oz. It was never engraved with the owner's mono. Condition is very good, with 1 or 2 dings at the rim caused by pressure on the feet.

This WM. Rogers silver serving dish is in very nice condition, there are a couple of blemish marks on the serving bowl. It is numbered 2347 on the bottom and is decorated with the Country Lane flower pattern. Circa 1954.

This little master salt is 3 3/8" and in excellent condition. There are no bends dents or repairs. The mark is worn but I think it is "A.Mathey" possibly for Aime Mathey of New York city. I'm not sure whether Aime is a mans or ladies name. It would be nice if this were a Woman Silversmith. Ca 1835.

Joseph W. Cary is cited in new book by Norman Mack--"Missouri's Silver Age." Mack says that Cary moved his jewelry store from Alton, Ill., to St. Louis ca 1870-75. These spoons have pinched-waist fiddle handles, pointed shoulders with feathered script mono E C S; length is 6-1/8", and condition is near mint, extended tips unworn.

This "shovel" form is somewhat unusual for a salt spoon. It's 3 7/8" and in good condition. There is a small rough spot on one side of the bowl. I believe it is marked "Burbank & Brother". This is probably A.F. Burbank of Worcester, Ma. Ca 1855.

You'll forgive me for thinking of Vermont as a place where they make the butter, not one where they made utensils to spread it. Be that as it may, here's a fine little implement by Roswell H. Bailey of Woodstock, circa 1840, length 7+ inches, excellent condition, monogrammed "C.P.D." in period script.

Form of about 1770 with upturned handles (tipt on top, no drops), but marked N.Harding and Pure Coin, each in a rectangle. Made by Newell Harding of Boston, say 1840, but probably to match other earlier spoons. Length 8-1/4". Weight 6.25 troy ounces (2.1 ounces each - substantial). Script monogram on back: HW to SAWM, PHM, HWM - one recipient on each spoon. Overall condition is excellent.

This pair of grape shears is a must for any collector of victorian silver. Circa 1880. I couldn't bring myself to remove the wonderfully rich patina. They measure almost 7 in. long. The handles are in the form of barley twist, and the center dial is framed by a beaded metal work. Email w/ any questions.
