Marked S.C. SPAULDING; also marked JANESVILL (no E) WIS, and also COIN. Spaulding was the retailer of this piece. It's also struck with 3 pseudos, the marks of the maker, Hall, Hewson in Albany. On the basis of style (wide stubby fiddle handle and unusual high angular shoulders), we've attributed this piece to B.B. Hastings of Cleveland. The ladle is 6-1/8" long and the mono is I.A.A. in feathered script. Aside from an incompletely struck mark, condition is excellent.

This is a nicely engraved berry spoon. The condition is excellent except for a wrinkle as shown by the arrow. It's not fragile, just bent. It's 8 7/8" with engraving in the bowl. It is marked "Gordon" incuse and has another partial mark "sterling" which may have been added later. Ca 1850/60.

This is what we look for, seldom finding. This 9 1/8" spoon is in excellent condition with no bowl wear or denting. The urn on the bowl is strong. It is marked "C Wiltberger" and this looks like it may have been struck twice, but it can be made out. Christian Wiltberger, Philadelphia, Ca 1790/95.

Marked by N. J. Gilman of Portland, c1850-60 -- double-swell fiddle handle, large flared shoulders, presentation script engraving on front: Mr & Mrs John Brackett to Mr & Mrs H. M. Brackett. This piece is 13-1/2" long, has a 4-1/4" oval bowl and weighs 8-1/2 T oz. Condition is outstanding, even with a small test mark at one of the shoulders.

This is a very good quality but highly intriguing set. There are 2 decanters and 10 cups with identical engraving and 2 other cups, indentical in form, size and wrigglework along the rim, but lacking the crest and having a monogram 'D'. A small but very ornate sterling mug by one of the more eminent silversmiths of that era, Sunshing. Marked on the base with S.S and a Chinese ideogram. Decorated all over with fruit-bearing branches with a branch handle. Very good condition. A shield-shaped `cartouche in front bears the monogram, a gothic "EO'HM". No doubt an Irish name so it could have a Massachusetts provenance. 3.75" tall.
