Ladle awarded at a Missouri county fair around 1850
Silver: Coin Silver: Serving Pieces
North Hill Antiques
873 $225
Made by E. Jaccard & Co., St. Louis -- at 8-7/8" in length, it is a mid-sized ladle suitable for serving soup out of a small crock, or gravy out of a large bowl, or grog out of a middlin'-sized cup, or perhaps it is an oyster ladle used to pluck the briny shellfish out of whatever they are served in.
In the event, it is a neat piece, with a pinched-waist fiddle handle, high pointed shoulders and a 2-7/8" oval bowl, and engraved on the front the letters B.C.A.M.A. -- which most likely stand fo... Click for details

R.&W. Wilson (Philadelphia) Engraved Coin Teaspoon
Silver: Coin Silver: Flatware
Old Friends
1230f $ 22
Wilson was a prominent name in 19th century Philadelphia silver manufacturing. The firm operated as a partnership between Robert and William from the 1820's to the 1850's and it was during this time that this 5 3/4" long, .6 T. oz., coin silver teaspoon was made. The broad handle, narrow shank design of the handle stands apart from what is generally characteristic of the company's style. It has attractive engraving on the handle, with a reserve at the tip. This has a fancy, feathered script ... Click for details

S. D. Brower Medallion Coin Silver Teaspoon
Silver: Coin Silver: Flatware
Old Friends
1208fb $ 45 each, five available
Sperry Douglas Brower was an Albany silversmith and manufacturer of repute and substantial size. Examples of his work are readily found, although that is not the case with his Medallion pattern, as instances of it are scant. In fact, Don Soeffing in his work on Medallion silver shows two spoon examples and states they are the only pieces he had seen (admittedly some time ago now as that publication is aging). This piece is a 5 7/8" long, .7 T. oz., teaspoon. It features a right facing female... Click for details

Tobias Stoutenburgh colonial American tablespoon,
Silver: Coin Silver: Flatware: 18th Century
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
2078 $775.00
New York circa 1750, with round upturned end, spatulate midrib, long elliptical bowl and molded drop, length 7 3/4 inches, weight 1.72 oz. Troy.
There is slight tip wear from right handed use, a few minor insults to the bowl (including a scratch, reverse), and significant wear to the monogram "B / E * E". On the whole, however, this spoon presents itself well. To quote Quimby in American Silver at Winterthur, "Sto... Click for details

Tablespoon by George Mitchell, Hannibal, MO, c1860
Silver: Coin Silver: Southern
North Hill Antiques
341 $100
Pinched-waist fiddle handle, pointed shoulders, script mono on front; 8-1/8" in length. Condition is fine. Mitchell is not listed in any of the books dedicated to Missouri silver. However, the 1860 census lists George Mitchell, age 41, as a jeweller, with a wife and 2 sons. Further, spoons have been collected which show both Mitchell's mark and his home town of Hannibal. Probably by this time, Sam Clemens would have moved east.
