Oyster ladle, coffin end - Robt. Shepherd, Albany,c1805
Silver: Coin Silver: Flatware: Coffin-End
North Hill Antiques
262 $275
Shepherd is probably better recognized for his long-term partnership with William Boyd. They began working together in 1810. This is an earlier piece, in the classic coffin-end pattern, with a straight tapering handle -- a graceful ladle, 8-1/8" long with a 2-3/8" oval bowl. It has an incised pointed arch drop on the back of the bowl, and the mono, in feathered script, is G A L. Condition is excellent.

Gorham Imperial Coin Silver Sugar Shell
Silver: Coin Silver: Serving Pieces
Old Friends
878a $ 35
Gorham's Imperial is an infrequently seen, and not very well known, 1860's pattern. It is identified in the Gorham archives (held at Brown University), so is documented, but pieces of it are generally without markings (as is the case with this), save for sometimes being stamped "Coin." The design parallels a nearly identical one made by Wood & Hughes. The W&H version is almost always marked, so the two can be distinguished that way, and by other subtle differences. The pattern has a twist st... Click for details

Durgin "Spray" Sterling Silver Place Spoon
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
877a $ 40
At 7 1/8" long, and quite heavy, this is a large oval soup or dessert spoon. At the time of its circa 1870 manufacture, it would simply have served as a place piece. The pattern is identified as "Spray" by Hagen in her work on patterns. However, she misattributes the maker and date, so whether the name is correct is in question. Examples of this show up in coin and sterling, which this is, and sometimes it is marked and sometimes not by the maker. This happens to be stamped Wm. B. Durgin, w... Click for details

Albion Antiques Ltd

Here is a wonderful Medallion coin silver asparagus tongs in very good condition. Not even a monogram. Engraving still sharp, showing no excessive wear.
