1 American coin silver teaspoon in the "Louis XIV" pattern. The pattern is by John Pohlamus, a New York City silversmith who provided Tiffany & Co. with much of its flatware in the mid-19th Century. Marked "PATENT 1847" incuse, "H" incuse probably for Henry Hebbard with whom he worked from 1852-58,although it may be a journeyman's mark, and "TIFFANY & Co." incuse for the retailer Tiffany of NYC. The "H" probably dates the piece to 1852-58, but only if it stands for Hebbard and not a journeyma... Click for details

Four coin silver teaspoons in the "Tuscan" pattern by William Gale of Gale and Hayden, NYC c. 1846-1850 and sold by J. F. Jones of Syracuse c. 1850. Marked "J. F. Jones" incuse and "PATENT 1846" in rectangle on reverse. Engraved "Ella A." in script on the front and "Bank---" on the reverse. Bowls are in good condition but running your fingernail over them reveals the beginning of the silver turning back, something that is bearly noticeable just by looking. A nice set.

Heavy coin silver sugar shell in a beautiful pattern I have not been able to identify by Newell Harding Co., Boston, c. 1851-1870. 6 3/4 inches long, modified shell bowl. Engraved "Sarah" in script on the reverse. Marks COIN and N HARDING CO. incuse. A good, heavy piece. Like new. While this is probably a sugar shell it just as easily could be used (and may have been used) as a preserve spoon since its shape is somewhat like later preserve spoons.

In very good condition but the medallion is not as crisp as on my other H & S medallion pieces, indicating significant use. Shell bowl with no gilding. 5 and 7/16 inches long. No engraving. Marked incuse "H & S" and "COIN." Also marked "A C WORTLEY" incuse for the retailer of unknown location.

Engraved on the back with a faint "JC" or "H" in script. Marked incuse "H & S", "STERLING", and MERMOD JACCARD & CO. Mermod Jaccard & Co. were jewelers in St. Louis, Missouri from c. 1845 to 1883.

Made by James Watts, Philadelphia, c1860 - sort of a knockoff of the Gorham Josephine pattern - even to the decoration on the back of the tines (see pic). Interesting, however, in their own right. Length is 8", weight is 18 Troy oz. Mono in feathered script on the front is D E N. All in excellent condition save one with wear on its left tine.

This long, 9 1/4", and moderately heavy, 1.8 T. oz., birdback spoon has Philadelphia orgins. It is stamped "Richards & Williamson" whose working dates are listed as 1797-1800. The particular design on this warrents comment in Donald Fennimore's "Flights of Fancy." He notes die similarities in this bird as it appears on work by this pair of makers, Joseph Lownes, Harvey Lewis, and Joseph Smith (page 18, figure 24). This is in very good condition.
