At 10 1/8" long and nearly 3 T. oz., this mid 19th century serving item is massive by any measure. It is marked Warner and Coin on the reverse. The name Warner is most associated with Baltimore, but this may have a Philadelphia origin. Certainly the design suggests this, as the shape of the handle is quite similar to Faber items. The intricate bright work in the bowl is also suggestive of Philadelphia, several of whose makers excelled in this kind of work. The serving portion is 3 7/8" by ... Click for details

Unusual 10" Krider, Philadelphia, Coin Olive Tongs

This pair of coin silver tongs are quite remarkable, in that they are 10" long. This form was recently described in a "Silver Magazine" article, and described as olive tongs. They were made by Philadelphia's Peter L. Krider, and show all the quality associated with that fine maker. The style suggests Philadelphia in at least two regards. First is the intricate period engraving that is characteristic of mid 19th century style from that city. Secondly is the twist element on the arms. The ta... Click for details

Here it is reborn, however briefly, with the added design elements of full-blown embossing, front and back, including the bowl (see pic). These spoons are 4" in length and all are in mint condition. The mono is an old English H set in a shield cartouche. Mark (see pic) is S. Kirk & Sons 10.15.
