Gorham 1858 Engine Turned Coin Silver Goblet
Silver: Coin Silver: Hollowware
Old Friends
831a $ 450
This presentation goblet or chalice was given to George Gorham Peters on his birthday, December 10, 1858, by his grandfather, Samuel Williams. Genealogical information is available on the net about Mr. Peters, who was born in Boston, had a connection with Blue Hill, Maine, and graduated from Harvard University in 1880. As the piece was made by Providence's Gorham Company, and Gorham and Williams were prominent Rhode Island names, there might have been that added connection. The piece stands 6... Click for details

Wm. Gale (NY) Heavy Round Tray with European Provenance
Silver: Sterling: Hollowware
Old Friends
796a $ 625
This solid silver tray is 9" in diameter and weighs a substantial 12.8 T. oz. It is stamped W. Gale & Son (NY), suggesting it was made between 1853-66. This dating is fully consistent with the style of the piece. There is a second, incused rectangle that is blurred, but the last portion are the letters ES, which may indicate Gale, Wood & Hughes, or Gale and Hughes, two Gales partnerships. There is no standard designation, but Gale went to sterling very early on, so this could be coin or ster... Click for details

This coin silver goblet stands 5 7/8" high and weighs 4.7 T. oz. The top diameter is 3 1/4", and the base 2 3/4" across. It is stamped on the underside "Pure Silver Coin," which almost certainly locates this to New England, and likely Boston, circa 1850. It is a handsome, sturdy and straightforward piece. This item is of exceptional design and historical interest. It is a large goblet or footed beaker that stands 5" tall overall, with 3" top and bottom diameters. It weighs 6.2 T. oz. The underside is stamped, "Lincoln & Foss, Pure Coin, Boston," with an Old English "L" and eagle. The body is baluster form, with an applied rolled rim. The base is a relatively short 1 1/4" high. English Sterling goblet by Hayden, Charleston, SC
Silver: Coin Silver: Hollowware
Albion Antiques Ltd
SA1M35 $1850
This must be a Charleston form as this is the third goblet of this form and decoration I have had from Charleston. This one is a bit later, with marks, pictured, for A.H.Hayden who, with W.G.Whilden, represented the last partnership of this dynasty which began in 1838 with his brothers Nathaniel and Sidney. This last partnership ended in 1863 when Hayden was in the Confederate Army and they subsequently set up business separately. This goblet must then date from about 1865 onwards.

Produced in the 1860's, this (card receiving?) tray is stamped Bigelow, Brothers and Kennard, Pure Coin, and Boston. There is also an Old English "L" and eagle mark. The piece is 9" x 6 5/8" and weighs 6.9 T. oz. It has a flat bottom, a tiered border, and an applied beaded rim. The interior surface is densely engraved, with a ... Click for details

George III sterling covered brandy pan, 1795
Silver: Coin Silver: Hollowware
Albion Antiques Ltd
SA1M13 SOLD
Here is a fine sterling brandy pan and cover made by John Wakelin and Robert Garrard in 1795.
This is equivalent to a "super group" of 18th century silversmiths, because both Wakelin and Garrard, excellent silversmiths in their own right, are descendants of great silversmith dynasties. Their short, but illustrious, partnership ran from 1792 to 1802.
The pan is in very good condition, with good hallmarks, showing a minimum evidence of age. The ivory finial has, as expected, age cracks, but cert... Click for details

George II sterling gravy boats, London 1752

SA1J05 SOLD
A very impressive pair of sterling gravy boats made by John Pollock of London in 1752. They have that early wide squat form, fully chased and supported on three hoofed feet, bearing masks of a very hirsute Royalist-looking character. The handles, too, terminate in a leopards head. The human masks are incredible, massive with deep relief and full of detail. Under the front lip is a cartouche bearing a contemporary monogram of, what appears to be, back-to-back entwined C's.
