Silver: Coin Silver: Hollowware
Old Friends
788b $ 265
This coin silver mug has a double provenance. It bears a punch mark of "E&P" for Eoff and Phyfe of New York City. It is also stamped Baldwin & Co. for the Newark, NJ manufacturing jeweler. The two firms both operated from the 1840's to mid 1850's, so the date of this piece is quite precise. Curiously, while it carries three monograms and names, the first this was inscribed was on January 2nd, 1936. It reads "Paulina Faithful," with the preceding date. Old Friends

This cup and saucer combination were made by Gorham. Both pieces carry the lion, anchor, G hallmark, the number 230, and the word Sterling. These read like coin, and may date from Gorham's transition to sterling in 1868. The number suggests a mid 1860's period. The plate is 5 1/2" in diameter, sits on a 1 5/8" wide rimmed base, and weighs a fu... Click for details
