This circa 1865, 7 3/16" long, coin silver preserve or jelly spoon is a fine example of A. & W. Wood's (NY) Dew Drop. The pattern incorporates bell flower, scroll, and leaf detailing set against a smooth ground. The bowl of this piece is especially appealing. It is artfully engraved with a pear and cherries (?). This sterling silver, jelly or large sugar shell spoon is 6 7/8" long and relatively heavy. It is marked for Boston's Bigelow, Bros & Kennard, and includes 925 in an oval. It is also engraved "1861" in script on the reverse, so this is early for sterling. Coin would be expected in this period. It is also inscribed with an Old English "C" on the front. The pair of tongs are 6 1/4" long. They are slender and have one trident end and one flat end. This form has been identified in an article in Silver Magazine as for pickles. The pattern is Gorham's Medallion. They are stamped with the Gorham lion, anchor, G and the words Pat. 1864. As there is no standard mark, they are presumably coin. The use of the name "Gorham & Thurber" was short lived, and therefore dates this piece narrowly to the 1850-52 period. It is also stamped "Pure Coin," which is common on New England silver of the period, but little used by Gorham. The item is a large, 11 5/8" long, heavy, 3.4 T. oz., fish slice. The blade itself is 6 1/4" by 3" at the widest. The pattern is sometime referred to as "Queen of the Sea." This coin silver master butter knife has a filled handle and a solid blade. It is 7 1/2" long, which is rather lengthy for this mid 19th century form. It is marked "BB&K" on the backside of the blade, for the Boston retailer Bigelow, Brothers & Kennard. It is also engraved "S. Barrett" in script. The handle pattern is a "Bead" with a shell tip. 2 heavy coin silver serving spoons about 8 1/2 inches long in a modified Kings pattern with scallop shell concave on front and convex on reverse of handle, shell drop. L. Veron & co, Philadelphia, ca. 1828-1841. One is in very good condition, the other has a bowl with a slight deformity and the handle has been slightly bent. Marked "L.VERON. & Co." in rectangle. Engraved "R" in script on the front of the handle. The engraving is faint on the best one and barely visible on the lesser one.

Marked "I [bullet] ADAM." in rectangle. Broad drop. Handle appears to have been slightly bent where fiddle meets stem, but you have to look closely to see this minor defect. Only the slightest bowl wear on the left. In very good condition.

This mid 19th century, 7 1/8" long coin silver spoon is stamped "Coin," but without a maker's identification. It has a broad, tipt end, and high tapered wings off the scallop shell bowl. There is a fancy "SPS" (?) feathered script monogram. The condition is excellent. There is no polishing wear, nor dings, dents or burrs in the bowl. The finish is lustrous.

A very nice coin silver berry spoon with twisted and engraved handle. The bowl still retains some of the gold wash. No intials engraved. Marked with a right facing eagle in oval with H H & B below in lozenge. This is the mark for Hall, Hewson & Brewer of Albany, New York, ca. 1846-52. A very nice pre-Civil War berry spoon, entirely useable today.

Coin silver sugar shell in a pattern that might be called "Grape" because of the 2 bunches of grapes and a grape leaf at the end of the handle in the cartouche. Quite likely an unidentified pattern by John Pohlamus of NYC. Engraved on the reverse "LKB" in script. Marked "A. SANBORN" incuse for Amose Sanborn of Lowell, Mass. ca. 1850. Also marked "PATENT.1850". Excellent condition. Slight wear on the drop and some of the design slightly rubbed.

Unmarked coin silver gravy ladle in the "Jenny Lind" pattern. 6 inches long. Probably by Albert Coles of NYC. Ca. 1855-78. P. T. Barnum introduced the American public to Jenny Lind, "the Swedish nightengale." She was a nationwide smash as a singer, despite some criticism of her talent.
