General Israel Putnam was a fabled Revolutionary War figure whose name and exploits were well known in the late 19th century, the period of this piece. The specific subject of this 5 1/2" long teaspoon was his encounter with a marauding she wolf in the northeastern Connecticut town of Pomfret. The neighboring town of Putnam is named for him. This sterling silver teaspoon is full-sized at 5 13/16" long. It weighs .9 T. oz. The pattern is Alvin's Art Nouveau Old Orange Blossom, which in this instance has been adapted as a souvenir spoon. If features a die struck image of Cathedral Drive, Lakewood, New Jersey in the bowl, and is so identified. It is in flawless condition, and without a monogram or removal. Though most famous for swaying the public's opinion towards abolitionism, Uncle Tom's Cabin is also notable for being one of the first literary (and then theatrical) works of art to spawn a marketing craze. Indeed, items related to the book were so popular that they remained in production from the publishing date of 1852 until the early 20th century.

This 5 1/2" long, sterling silver souvenir spoon is stamped "E. Mehesy," who was the maker or retailer. It is a commemorative of Salt Lake City, with the dominant element being the figure of the Angel Moroni blowing a horn. This has a die-struck decorated bowl that portrays the "Saltair Beach and Pavilion." Other examples of this spoon show the Mormon Tabernacle in the bowl. This portraiture may be a less common one. This sterling silver spoon is model number H16 patented by Gorham in 1898. It was retailed by Shourds, Adcock & Teufel of Chicago. The theme is American and British unity. The bowl reads, "The Stars and Stripes and the Union Jack wave together over an Anglo-Saxon alliance." The dominant feature of the handle is entwined British and American flags that are enameled in red, white, and blue. This 5 7/8" long, .7 T. oz., sterling silver souvenir spoon was made by Wallace. The pattern is similar to that comany's Hampton, which dates from 1904 and would be the approximate vintage of this piece. The bowl is engraved with a scene featuring the "High Bridge" in Muscatine, Iowa. The Mississippi River appears in the foreground, with the bridge prominently featured, and the city scape on the far banks. This 5 3/16" long, slightly over .5 T. oz., early 20th century, sterling silver spoon was made by the Charles M. Robbins Company which produced among other things an extensive line of souvenir items. This piece is a commemorative of Wellesley College. It has a beaded stem ending in a Corinthian capital on top of which sits a disk on which in turn is set a raised seal of the school.
