Dominick & Haff "Renaissance" Sterling Jelly Trowel
click for details
Made in two versions, one pierced and one not, this example of Dominick & Haff's figural "Renaissance," is the former and less common of the two. This variant seems to have been retailed only by Boston's Bigelow, Kennard & Co., as this and other examples are stamped. Other marks include the D&H emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat-d. 94."

The form is a 7 11/16" long jelly trowel. Consistent with the line, it is heavy, weig... Click for details

Towle produced a number of engraved designs in the late 19th century, some of which were named, some of which were numbered, and some of which were unidentified.

This example, while exceptionally attractive, appears to be in the last category and may simply represent the artful expression of an engraver left to his own impulses.

Seldom found, John Wendt's "Moresque" is the nameplate pattern for the "Persian Revival," or "Moorish," style that was popular in the United States in the 1870's. Some other contemporaneous examples of this motif include Tiffany's and Whiting's "Persian," and Gorham's "Hindostanee."

"Moresque" examples present with slight variations from piece to piece. These variations include the utilization of a plain disc on the... Click for details

Whiting's "Honeysuckle" pattern features a naturalistic representation of this popular garden flower set against a finely stippled ground. The lower portion of the handle is lined and separated from the pictorial portion by a crossed ribbon band. length six inches, weight 1.00 Troy ounces, no monogram, excellent condition, retailed by Wendell & Roberts.

Silver scholar and author D. A great entry level item for the budding silver collector, should such a creature still exist...

6 Gorham "Paris" Sterling Silver Bouillon Spoons
click for details
A pattern deeply rooted in the academic tradition, "Paris" incorporates an abundance of figural and representational beaux arts imagery. Made by Gorham just after the turn of the 20th century, the dominant elements are flanking cherubs supporting a torch. A cat sitting amid bowls and what appears to be a coffee pot sits mid handle. This assembly is repeated on the backside, minus the cat. The margins of the handle are festooned with floral and scroll elements, along with cornucopia. ... Click for details
