One would expect something out of the ordinary from Gorham, and indeed our piece is no square. It has two acute and two obtuse angles, making the corner to corner dimensions 6 5/8 and 7 1/2 inches. This along with some superb Philadelphia style brite cut engraving make for a rather unusual item. Weight 4.7 oz Troy, date letter J for 1877, fine condition, stylized monogram in center.

Randahl Jensen-esque Sterling Sauce Ladle
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
919a $ 165
It is difficult to imagine this 6" long, and weighty, sterling silver sauce (or possibly shallow gravy) ladle did not find its inspiration from Georg Jensen's Blossom design. Made by Randahl, the intent may have been to demonstrate that this Chicago based operation could match, or even improve upon, the original. It is a thoroughly successful piece, very much embodying the best characteristics of Danish arts & crafts style. Marked "Hand Wrought Sterling" (along with Randahl and the number 268... Gorham 1889 Sterling Figural Mug/Pitcher
Silver: Sterling: Hollowware
Old Friends
918a $ 395 SOLD
This sterling silver item appears to have a double identity. At first glance, it presents as a mug, but close inspection shows it has a pouring lip, indicating it a pitcher. The question immediately rises, is this original, or is the modest lip an adaptation performed after its manufacture. The key to this lies with the maker, which was Gorham, whose lion, anchor, G mark appears on the underside, along with Sterling, the number 4130, and the date emblem for 1887. The Gorham catalog of 1889 (... Click for details
