Lush Kerr Art Nouveau Pond Lily Letter Opener

This solid sterling silver letter open is 8 1/8" long and was made by Newark's Wm. B. Kerr, likely early in the 20th century. It features a high relief, art nouveau, pond lily design. This exhibits all the free form, lush, sinuous qualities which define art nouveau. Kerr was an especially adept firm at art nouveau expression, and this piece attests to that. It is in outstanding condition. Marks on the reverse are the Kerr emblem (it is small and some rubbed, but still distinct), the word S... Click for details

Circa 1868 Sterling Silver Master Butter Knife

This sterling silver master knife is some large, 7 3/4" long, and solid weight. It is a mystery pattern, although quite similar to Gorham's "Italic" of 1868. It is a plain design, with a pedimented end, and an Old English "P" monogram on the reverse. The style looks as if it wants to be coin silver, but it is stamped "Sterling." It is also marked "J.N.L. & Co." There was a "J.N. Lewis & Co." of York, So. Carolina, but it is inconclusive whether this traces to that firm. The condition is ve... Click for details

Rand & Crane (Boston) Heavy "Shell" Sterling Crumber

Rand & Crane (circa 1896-1922) were something of an enigmatic Boston retailer. Their product sources are uncertain, but their offerings were always to a high standard. This is the case with this 8 3/4" long, immensely heavy, 5.7 T. oz., solid sterling silver crumber. The design is a pointed antique with a shell end. Several makers produced shell end designs, but the prevailing examples all had rounded ends. This design apparently stands on its own. While the rest of the piece is entirely p... Click for details
