Joseph Barnard 1791 London Crested Sterling Dinner Fork

Measuring 8" long and weighing not quite 2.1 T. oz., this sterling silver dinner forks bears full hallmarks for Joseph Barnard, London, Sterling, 1791. It is an upturned tipt end design, plain on the front but having an engraved "lion passant holding sword" crest on the back. It is in especially fine condition, with a superb finish. Apart from slight knife cuts on the backs of the tines, there is no visible wear.

Pair Charles Shipway London 1829 Sterling Dinner Forks

Each of these two matching dinner forks bears full hallmarks for London, 1829, Sterling, and a "C pellet S" maker's stamp for Charles Shipway. They measure 8 1/8" long, large by American standards but not so for English, and are heavy, weighing 4.6 T. oz. the pair. They are a plain fiddle tipt design and without monograms or inscriptions, or removals of same. The condition is excellent. The only signs of wear are very slight tip wear on the tines, more so on one fork, and shallow knife cuts ... Click for details

Towle Paul Revere Solid Sterling Silver Cake Saw

This cake saw or knife was made by Towle and is that company's Paul Revere pattern. It measures 9 1/2" long, and is quite heavy at just under 3.0 T. oz. It has a flat handle and blade and is solid sterling silver. The blade is tapered and has a sawtooth top edge, which is characteristic of this form. Alvin Virginia Long Handle Sterling Olive Spoon

This solid sterling silver olive spoon is a long version, at 8 1/4", and weighty, at 1.0 T. oz. The pattern is Virginia produced by Alvin at the turn of the 20th century. It is a bead and tipt design, clean of look and favoring a traditional sensibility. The bowl is ovoid, deeply cupped and pierced, and has scalloped, flanged shoulders. The condition is flawless and there is no monogram or removal. Marks are the Alvin emblem and the word Sterling.

Choice Whiting Louis XV Small Sterling Berry Spoon

This small berry or jelly spoon measures 7 3/8" long and weighs just short of 1.7 T. oz. The pattern is Louis XV by Whiting. A late 19th century design, this features a series of scrolls along the border of the handle, with a flourish at the tip. The flanged and crimped shoulders of the matte gold finish bowl repeat the design. The item is in flawless condition and without a monogram or removal. Marks are the Whiting lion emblem, Sterling, and Pat. 1891.

This set consists of a knife, a fork, and a sharpener with hollow sterling handles and stainless steel elements. The pattern is Old French by Gorham. These are large, banquet sized items. The knife measures 13 1/4" long, the fork 10 3/4", and the sharpener 14 1/8". The handles are all 5" long and robust, 1" across at the widest, and 5/8" thick. This pair of tongs are authentically for ice, being very large scale. They are 6 1/4" long, 1 1/2" across at the arch, and have a 2" spread at the grips when open. The band is 7/8" wide at the arch and 5/8" at the widest on the arm. The weight is just short of 2.3 T. oz. The pattern is Villa by Whiting, dating from 1895. While Twist and Twist variants were produced by many makers, examples of it originating from Durgin are scarce. This c. 1887 example is a 9" long, just over 1.0 T. oz. lettuce fork, and is actually a double twist, with the style changing midway on the handle. Among the somewhat whimsical themes that were brought into the realm of silver design starting in the late 1800's was that of playing cards. Fessenden's Tulip is an impressive entry in the field of Art Nouveau floral designs. Introduced in 1910, it was late in that style period, but fully retains the spirit of the movement. Towle's 1890's Canterbury is a highly evolved scroll and bead design. The beading flanks the entire length of the handle, and is graduated, enlarged at the widest point, and quite fine at the narrowest. The triple scroll top is expressive, suggesting a breaking wave.
