Circa 1868 Sterling Silver Master Butter Knife
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
671a $ 45
This sterling silver master knife is some large, 7 3/4" long, and solid weight. It is a mystery pattern, although quite similar to Gorham's "Italic" of 1868. It is a plain design, with a pedimented end, and an Old English "P" monogram on the reverse. The style looks as if it wants to be coin silver, but it is stamped "Sterling." Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
664a $ 165
Rand & Crane (circa 1896-1922) were something of an enigmatic Boston retailer. Their product sources are uncertain, but their offerings were always to a high standard. This is the case with this 8 3/4" long, immensely heavy, 5.7 T. oz., solid sterling silver crumber. The design is a pointed antique with a shell end. Several makers produced shell end designs, but the prevailing examples all had rounded ends. This design apparently stands on its own. While the rest of the piece is entirely p... Click for details
