Gale & Mosely, New York circa 1830, double struck-- for the uninitiated, this means the pattern is both front and back, length just shy of 8 1/2 inches, some very slight tine wear on a few (we've pictured the worst one in enlargement number four) but superb overall condition, weight 30.74 Troy ounces (!!) or 2.79 each on average, no monogram.

One would be hard-pressed indeed to find a better set of dinner forks.

In addition to being of exceptional design merit, this boxed pair of 6 7/16" long, 2.1 T. oz. combined, preserve (or possibly large sugar) spoons have an impressive manufacturing and retailing provenance. They remain in their original leather presentation box that is impressed with the name of the prestigious retailer, "Howard & Co., 619 Broadway, NY," on the blue satin interior. length 8 1/2 inches, weight 6.4 Troy ounces, no monogram, with Jensen trademark circa 1940, "84", and Swedish import marks, (see third enlargement).

Over the years, we've bought and sold many pieces of Blossom. This one is in exemplary condition, with gentle hammer marks on spoon bowl and fork tines; each petal of the blossom with full detail.

This 5 7/8" long, just over .5 T. oz., olive spoon is an early production, original example of Gorham's "Chantilly." It is in immaculate condition and without a monogram or removal. The pierced bowl has a flanged rim and is finished in a bright gold wash front and back sides. Marks are lion, anchor, G, "Sterling," and "PAT 1895."

That this 5 1/4" long, relatively heavy at over .4 T. oz., sterling silver strawberry fork is a Gorham numbered item indicates it was specially designed and not part of a line pattern. Measuring a generous 9 1/2" long, and weighing just over 2.3 T. oz., this serving spoon is marked "JS" for John Smith (Smyth), with the remaining hallmarks indicating Dublin, Ireland, and 1802. It has a down turned handle with a reverse tipt end, and an exposed drop on the bowl. The front is monogrammed "AMB" in a feathered script. The condition is very good. Measuring 7 7/8" long with a bowl that is 2 7/8" in diameter by 3/4" deep, and weighing a substantial 3.4 T. oz., this "Frontenac" gravy ladle is exceptionally large. Of a singular design, this 9 1/4" long, .9 T. oz., c. 1900, olive or pickle fork is marked "Geo. C. Shreve & Co." and "Sterling." This premier San Francisco firm was known for its Arts & Crafts and hammered designs, and this essentially falls within that tent. This pair of coffee spoons were made by well known English makers Samuel Godbehere and Edward Wigan. The date mark places them 1794-1796. This pair of makers are quoted in Jackson's Hallmarks as "Good, general makers of usually small pieces, spoons, cream jugs, etc." They weigh a combined .7 T. oz. and measure 4 3/4".
