Old, Heavy Gorham Strasbourg Full Size Dinner Fork
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
764a SOLD
At 7 5/8" long, this item is a true dinner fork in Gorham's Strasbourg. It is also an old example, with the Gorham lion, anchor, G, Pat. 1897, and Sterling marks. The last feature that sets this apart is its massive weight, 2.1 T. oz. It is without a monogram or monogram removal, and in excellent condition. The tines are even, remain well pointed, and are free of burrs or nicks. The pattern retains good definition. The only signs of wear are surface scratches consistent with age.

Unusual Wood & Hughes Aesthetic Sterling Spoon
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
760a $ 45
This sterling silver spoon is 5 7/8" overall, and is probably a sugar spoon although function is uncertain. It has an elongated, somewhat narrow, bowl that is 2 1/4" by 1 1/4". Made by Wood & Hughes, it is an individualistic, aesthetic design. The handle is some plain, with a feathered edge and script "P" monogram. The bowl continues the feathered look around its irregular rim, while the interior has a hand hammered, matte surface, much in the manner of Shiebler's Homeric designs, and other ... Gorham Medallion Twist Handle Ster. Master Butter Knife
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
752a $ 275
The right, or twist, handle form of Gorham's Medallion master butter knife is less common than the flat handle version. This example is 7 1/4" long and weighs a hefty 1.5 T. oz. The classical figure is a female, probably Demeter, goddess of the harvest, as her head is encircled by a wreath of wheat. The blade is engine turned and engraved, while the backside of the handle has an Old English "D" monogram. The condition is very good, although it is evident that the piece has been used. The pa... Gorham BUST punch ladle
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Bruce Cherner Antique Silver
1637 $1650.00
length 13 1/2 inches, weight 5 oz Troy, no monogram. Concerning condition, the handle is ever so slightly off vertical and there are some very minor dents in bowl (please see fourth photo). Both of these issues are difficult for my eye to detect, so I do not feel that they need to be addressed. The bust looks pretty much the way it did when this item left the factory in Providence some hundred forty odd years ago. Last but not least, feel free to use Google Product Search© and compare o... Circa 1865 Knob End Sterling Sugar or Fruit Spoon
Silver: Sterling: Flatware
Old Friends
744a $ 165
While at 6 5/8" long, this sterling silver spoon is the size of a sugar spoon, the attractively repoussed fruit in the bowl suggests this might have been a preserve or jelly spoon. The style is individualistic, in a fashion characteristic of American silver of the mid 1860's. This has a knob or dome end, that in this case has a knurled band around it. The shank is a five-sided tubular form that separates into three wire arms where it joins the bowl. The bowl is shell form, repoussed and engr... Click for details
