Made in two versions, one pierced and one not, this example of Dominick & Haff's figural "Renaissance," is the former and less common of the two. This variant seems to have been retailed only by Boston's Bigelow, Kennard & Co., as this and other examples are stamped. Other marks include the D&H emblem, "Sterling," and "Pat-d. 94."

Seldom found, John Wendt's "Moresque" is the nameplate pattern for the "Persian Revival," or "Moorish," style that was popular in the United States in the 1870's. Some other contemporaneous examples of this motif include Tiffany's and Whiting's "Persian," and Gorham's "Hindostanee."

Marked with a lion, the English symbol for sterling silver, an Old English date letter "f" for 1841, and the city symbol for London, and the queen's head duty mark, this mustard spoon measures 4 13/16" long and weighs a relatively heavy .9 T. oz.
